Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called for stronger city-to-city partnerships to promote sustainable economic development across Africa.
Speaking at the 70th anniversary celebration of Sister Cities International in Washington, DC, she said such partnerships can boost trade, investment, innovation, and institutional development while helping cities tackle shared challenges.
The Vice President highlighted Ghana’s commitment to decentralisation under President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, which gives Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies greater responsibility for delivering essential public services.
She also pointed to Ghana’s role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, saying it offers opportunities to deepen collaboration, especially for young people.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang congratulated Sister Cities International on its 70th anniversary and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to partnerships that promote sustainable development and shared prosperity.
